What Is E-marketing?

Instead of, What is E-marketing?, a better question for us to start with might be, "What is marketing?" I'm always surprised by the number of business owners that don't know the answer to that question. Most business owners that I've worked with thought that marketing was synonymous with advertising. While advertising is definitely part of marketing, marketing is so much more.

Advertising is only one cog in the marketing machine. It can be used to inform the customer or to keep your company focused in their mind. Marketing, on the other hand, is the entire machine and it extends from the customer's first exposure to a product or service all the way past sales and into customer retention.

As you might have guessed by now, e-marketing involves using digital and electronic media to drive that marketing machine. And just like with the broader definition of marketing, online marketing goes way beyond simple advertising. In fact, the online in online marketing goes way beyond just the world wide web!

Another important distinction in digital marketing, one that is all-important to the small business person, is that it strives for automation. Using today's technology, one skilled marketer can do what used to take hundreds of people and thousands or even millions of dollars to accomplish. It is the ultimate leveling of the playing field for small businesses if we are prepared to learn and use it. (What, that?!? It's not a soap box, I swear!)

The following is a list of e-marketing strategies (if you're a football fan, think running game vs. passing game). The plays themselves can be found by clicking the Techniques button in the nav bar on the left. Click on any of the links below to go a page with a description and examples.

If the one you want isn't a link, it's because I haven't had time to write the page yet. This site is fairly new and I'm putting up pages as fast as I can in my spare time. If you want to request one, feel free to contact me and submit your request , otherwise I'll work on them in the order that I feel like at the time.
